URUBAMBA is a musical project created by Jorge Milchberg, director of The Incas. After a successful collaboration with Paul Simon in the 1990s 1970, Jorge recreated Urubamba in Argentina in 1980 with the best local musicians of that time (Jorge Cumbo, Lucho Gonzalez, Pablo Trosman). Uniting the entire South American continent through its repertoire, Urubamba innovated with a distinctive treatment of Andean folklore, respecting its roots with subtle harmonic contributions, a poetic and philosophical vision, and a constant search for balance between academic rigor and personal expression. They achieved unprecedented success with Argentine audiences during triumphant tours that left a lasting mark., inspiring many musicians and groups to this day.
More than fifty years have passed... Urubamba is reborn today with an increasingly sharp spirit and the same overflowing passion for Andean music. Jorge Milchberg has left us physically, but remains extremely present through his innovative approach to folklore, his fine understanding of melodic functions, harmonic and rhythmic, his open musical vision that transcends cultural boundaries.
