He himself was a writer in his youth and always had a notable inclination to literature. That is why it is not surprising that he has created some of the most paradigmatic Lieder cycles of romanticism.
His personal life could well have been that of some story or novel character. He wanted to be a virtuous pianist but suffered an injury using an apparatus to independent the fingers that prevented it. He had to go to trial with the father of his beloved Clara, She if a young exceptional concertist, to get married. And ended his days in a mental health asylum.
