New Classical Music Cycle – Holly Nelson con Tomás Borghelli y Michelle Wong

A new cycle begins at Café Vinilo at the hands of Benjamín Báez as programmer, generating an interesting space for classical music in the popular circuit and looking for those concerts that will awaken the ears avid for this repertoire.

Benjamín Báez, cellist, nation in 1995 in Asuncion, Paraguay. He trained at the National Conservatory of his country and later at ISATC. He was a member of the Paraguayan National Symphony and was a cello soloist in the Universidad del Norte Orchestra., of the National Congress of Paraguay, of the Bach Collegium of Asunción and the Argentine National Music Orchestra "Juan de Dios Filiberto". As a soloist, he performed with the orchestras of the Knowledge Center, Cochabamba Philharmonic, Symphonies of the Province of Corrientes, Salta and in the Ushuaia International Festival edition 2023.
He specialized in interpretation of baroque music in France, giving concerts on tours of Europe and Africa. He won the First Prize "Nicolás Finoli" at the VI Latin American Cello Festival 2016 in Buenos Aires, directed by Eduardo Vasallo. He was a teacher at ISATC and trainer in baroque interpretation of low strings.
He is currently associate soloist of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra at the Teatro Colón. He is founder and director of 12 Cellos–Ensemble.

Holly Nelson, violín
American violinist Holly Nelson has performed in chamber music groups and orchestras in Switzerland, Germany, Inglaterra, Luxemburgo, Austria, China, Canada and Taiwan. He is currently completing his PhD in classical violin at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University on an honorary full scholarship.. He recently received the Presser Award from the Peabody Institute, which “is designed to especially encourage and support the advanced education and career of truly exceptional music graduate students who have the potential to make a notable contribution to the field of music”. He also received the Fulbright award 2022-23, one of the most prestigious academic awards in the world. The award allows him to perform and teach classical music throughout Argentina, as well as carry out research on tango music in Buenos Aires, for one full academic year. Holly Nelson received her bachelor's degree in music from Mannes College of Music in New York City and her master's degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) not Ohio. Among his teachers are Vadim Gluzman, Giora Schmidt, Kurt Sassmannshaus, Ann Setzer, Daniel Phillips and Garrett Fischbach. He has taught at the University of Cincinnati, the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Fordham University in New York City and the University of Texas at El Paso. When he's not playing music, he likes to cook spicy international food, skiing, go hiking and try to learn the subjunctive mood of Spanish.

Michelle Wong, oboe and english horn
Born in Hong Kong, Michelle Wong is English horn soloist of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra since 2012, in which it was directed by great directors such as Charles Dutoit, Yan Pascal Tortelier y Antoni Wit. In 2017 premiered Vincent Persichetti's English Horn Concerto under the direction of Enrique Arturo Diemecke.
He began his musical studies of piano and oboe at the age of four and in a few years he made his debut as a concert oboe player with the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra.. She was selected as the youngest member in the history of Asia Youth Orchestra. During his adolescence he frequently performed in the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Macau Orchestra.. She is a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music.. His main teachers include Alex Klein, Robert Walters and Jonathan Blumenfeld for oboe and English horn, Kathryn Montoya and Priscilla Herreid for baroque oboe, Lydia Frumkin and Edit-Maria Lenghel for piano. He develops chamber music activities as an oboist and also as a pianist.. He was pianist accompanist of the prestigious oboist Alex Klein. She is passionate about teaching. She is a professor at the Higher Institute of Art of the Teatro Colón. Her teaching activities have taken her to different places such as different parts of Argentina., Brazil, Panama, Hong Kong and the US.

Tomás Borghelli, piano
Graduate in Musical Arts from UNA, was trained with Mtra. Susana Kasakoff since year 2013 till the date. He has performed as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles in the Golden Hall of the Teatro Colón., Liberty Temple, National Music Center, Isaac Fernández Blanco Museum, Fernandez Blanco House, French Alliance of Buenos Aires, Auditorium of the Juan José Castro Conservatory, Auditorio “Garcia Morillo” from the UNA, Cultural center “Carlos Gardel House”, entre otros.
