Maria Cristina Kiehr, soprano
Alejandro Sarmentero, piano
This project is born from our desire, almost utopian, to connect two great and admired artists such as María Elena Walsh and Robert Schumann. Despite the distance of time and latitude that separates them, The exploration of their poetic and musical universes reveal a deep connection between both. This is how in this recording Walsh's most emblematic songs will be intertwined with Schumann's romantic and lyrical style..
Alejandro Sarmentero has deeply researched Schumann's style to capture the
essence of her music and thus translate that aesthetic to the songs of María Elena Walsh. In some pieces, Schumann's piano accompaniments were adopted verbatim, while in others, those patterns and the typical harmonies of romanticism served as inspiration.
Just as Schumann himself described his Children's Scenes Op.. 15 como “Reflection of an elder for elders” (“Reminiscences of a grown-up for grown-ups”), This new version of María Elena Walsh's work reinterprets her songs, especially children's, as a souvenir for adults, evoking the nostalgia of those who, when listening to them, They return to their childhood from the adult perspective.
